In my last post I put out a plea for help with identifying a mysterious object featured in a photograph from our John Flynn collection. Our caption title for the photograph was just "Unidentified object, two egg-shaped bulbs joined by a tube" and we really had no idea what it could be.
That unidentified object
Well, thanks to the wonderful Twitterverse, I think we now have an answer. Tim Hose tweeted that he thought it might be a deformed egg, possibly an emu egg and provided a link to a photo of a deformed chicken egg that looked very similar (though of course on a much smaller scale).

I'm thrilled to have the mystery solved so quickly - but the thought of some poor emu producing that very odd looking egg in our John Flynn photo makes me cringe a little! I've now been able to update the title on our catalogue record to something much more meaningful "Egg-shaped object, possibly a deformed emu egg". Thanks very much to Tim Hose! Now, should I challenge Tim with some more of the unidentified photographs from our collection? Perhaps someone with a technical bent could help with this one that is also from our John Flynn collection "Unidentified communication apparatus"
