Overview

At the core of the Festival program were photographic exhibitions by several of the national collecting institutions.

These exhibitions, and many of the exhibitions by the local cultural organisations, were open for the full length of the Festival. The Festival opening week included an international conference hosted by The Australian National University.

The exciting program of Festival events included the projection of photographic images on to the exteriors of buildings, a folio night when Australia’s photographers were able to show their work to buyers from Canberra’s collecting institutions, award ceremonies for both professional and amateur photographers, a trade show, master classes, seminars, talks and tours.

Vivid is part of a lively program of photography festivals in Australia, including FotoFreo, the Queensland Festival of Photography and the Daylesford Foto Biennale.

Vivid, the National Photography Festival, was held in Canberra from 11 July to 12 October 2008. It celebrated the vital role of photography in Australian life and history.
