100 exhibitions, 50 venues - Australia’s largest photography festival
Vivid: National Photography Festival runs from 11 July until 12 October with 50 venues hosting over 100 exhibitions. These exhibitions present stunning photography on a range of contemporary and historical themes.
At the core of Vivid are simultaneous photographic exhibitions at the Australian War Memorial, National Gallery of Australia, National Library of Australia, National Archives of Australia, National Film and Sound Archive, The Australian National University, Canberra Museum and Gallery and Old Parliament House.
Four years in the planning, the inaugural Vivid festival has developed into Australia’s largest photography festival, convenor Linda Groom, of the National Library, says.
“I’m convinced that Vivid will have people dazzled by the array of challenging new work and by the beauty of the historic exhibitions. The festival encompasses historic, commercial, student and community photography.
“The enthusiasm of the participants throughout the four years has ensured Vivid’s diversity and vitality and will be the hallmark of its success. We are grateful to our sponsors Couch Creative, Australian Capital Tourism, WIN Television, 666 ABC Canberra, SilverSun Pictures, Hang Ups Australia, National Convention Centre Canberra, Pixel Perfect Pro Lab, Asuka Book and The Canberra Times.
In addition to the exhibitions Vivid features conferences, projections on to landmark buildings, a trade show, master classes, seminars, talks and tours, as well as events for photographers and photographic historians.
All exhibitions and many of the talks and tours are free of charge.
