Key Indicator 5: Replacing acetate microfilm
Replacing unstable acetate microfilm with polyester film is one of the strategies which ANPlan libraries have been using to preserve access to their newspaper collections. A number of ANPlan libraries have now completed acetate duplication projects for their first generation newspaper microform collections or hold no acetate master microfilm. These are NTL, State Library of New South Wales (SLNSW), State Library of South Australia (SLSA) and SLT. The SLWA replaced 680 reels of acetate first generation acetate masters in 2011/12 and the SLV replaced 67 reels. The titles of these reels are given in Appendix G. The SLQ and NLA will undertake an audit of masters in 2012/13 to confirm that no acetate masters are held.
