These days nearly everyone is looking for a felon in their family tree but the life of a soldier in colonial Australia was also often ripe with colour: guarding gold transports and convicts, pursuing bushrangers, assisting with exploration and constructing key infrastructure.

Muster books, pay lists, registers, succession books and other soldiers documents, there’s a wealth of material to delve into. This talk will show you how to research your ancestors' 19th century military service using resources from the National Library and other service records.
