Fashion can tell a story, it can shape a time, it can make an identity.

Join us for this exclusively digital event with author Melissa Fagan, curator Dr. Susannah Helman and Trove Specialist Cheney Brew as they explore the world of fashion woven throughout Trove and the National Library’s Collection. Filmed live from the National Library's Theatre, this digital exclusive will give you up close and personal access to the Library's Collection, straight to your smart device.

What Will Be Worn: A McWhirter’s Story is a generation spanning work in which author Melissa Fagan uncovers the lives of the women in her family and tells the story of their lives and times through the fashions they wore.

Lacking any substantial archival material for her research, Melissa Fagan turned to the internet and Trove for information. From Trove’s newspapers, magazines and photos sprang a world of high fashion and society columns documenting the fashion and style of Australian women throughout the 20th Century in vivid tone.

Visit the National Library of Australia Facebook page at 1.30pm on Tuesday the 17th of September to watch the event live.
