Friends Lunchtime Lecture: In Search of Beauty
Hilda was beginning to establish a name for herself as an accomplished young artist when the outbreak of the First World War heralded a series of family tragedies that would almost destroy her. Returning to Australia, she sought refuge in her art, from which she was able to draw comfort and strength. Hilda gradually carved out a new life for herself and went onto establish an impressive career as an artist who was held in high esteem, both nationally and internationally.
Join author Karen Johnson to learn more about this fascinating Australian artist at a Friends Lunchtime Lecture followed by the opportunity to see the Hilda Rix Nicholas sketchbook that inspired this recent NLA Publishing book. Retire to the Friends Lounge afterwards for light refreshments, along with Karen for a book signing. The book In search of Beauty-Hilda Rix Nicholas’ sketchbook art is available from the Bookshop; please use your Friends membership card for your discount.
