Libraries Australia cataloguing system upgrade

To prepare for the Australian implementation of Resource Description and Access (RDA), on Monday 18 March we will be releasing an upgrade to the Libraries Australia cataloguing system.

This upgrade includes system configuration changes which will include:

* Support for new MARC field 264 which will replace field 260 in RDA records
* Changes to the Record Import Service (RIS) matching and merging to give preference to RDA records over records created according to Anglo American Cataloging Rules 2nd edition (AACR2) and older standards.

As a result of the upgrade there will be a necessary downtime of Libraries Australia Cataloguing Client (via WinIBW) and WebCat. These services will be unavailable from 5pm (AEST) Friday 15 March.

Libraries Australia Search, including searching via the Libraries Australia Z39.50 gateway, and Libraries Australia Document Delivery will continue to operate as usual.

Following the upgrade, services will return to normal on Monday 8am (AEST) 18 March.

In the coming weeks, updated Libraries Australia Cataloguing Client templates reflecting new RDA fields will be available for libraries to download.  Information will be distributed via this list as it becomes available.

Additional information about RDA records in Libraries Australia is available at: http://www.nla.gov.au/librariesaustralia/services/cataloguing/resource-description-and-access-rda/
