Young photographer wins VIVID Festival Award
11 November 2008
Young Canberra photographer Chris Morrison has won the inaugural VIVID Emerging Artist Award. His work was selected from work exhibited by new and emerging photographers in the VIVID National Photography Festival, held in the ACT and region from 11 July to 12 October this year.
Chris won the award with his Compressed exhibition at the Huw Davies Gallery, 9 – 24 August 2008. Compressed featured an eight-minute widescreen multimedia room projection, comprising 14,000 still images shot in Canberra and Sydney using time-lapse photography.
The award of $500 will be presented to Chris by Linda Groom, Convenor of the VIVID festival and Pictures Curator at the National Library of Australia, at a ceremony at 1 pm on Tuesday 11 November in the Friends Lounge of the National Library.
“I’m delighted that the judging committee selected Chris for the award,” Ms Groom said.
“His photographs are a lively interpretation of urban landscapes and show an exceptional level of skill and patience.”
