Dirk Hartog 2016 initiative
11 December 2015
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Australia and the Consulate General in Sydney proudly announced their support to 1 of 3 new Dirk Hartog 2016 projects to be initiated by the National Library of Australia in Canberra on Friday 11 December 2015.
Dirk Hartog in the Digital Classroom
Dirk Hartog 1616–2016: 400 years of Dutch-Australian connection will reveal the stories of Dutch-Australian connections to young audiences. It will provide a tool for teachers to explore the immigration/migration story as outlined in the curriculum but do so through the experience of Dutch-Australians.
The National Library's Digital Classroom is designed for Australian schools, and is also available to all audiences nationally and internationally. Teachers can use the online tools—about 400 years of Dutch-Australian connection—to address year 5, 6 and 10.
This resource is expected to be launched October 2016 to coincide with the anniversary of Dirk Hartog’s landing.
