Dame Joan is Australia's great coloratura soprano who died on the 10th October 2010 in Switzerland after a prestigious international career spanning some forty years. Dubbed La Stupenda she mesmerised audiences everywhere with her unique voice and extraordinary vocal agility. Yet she was a "down to earth" diva much loved by her audiences and by those who worked with her from fellow artists, administrators and musicians to backstage staff. The National Library has a key responsibility to collect the documentary record of this great Australian.
Tributes and memorial concerts have been held around the world to honour the legacy of Dame Joan Sutherland. The National Library of Australia is seeking your help in collecting current and retrospective Dame Joan Sutherland memorabilia, wherever you live!
The Library appeals to all Joan Sutherland lovers who might have programs of international and Australian tributes or her other performances, or other related memorabilia, to contact our Ephemera Officer. Please first check the Joan Sutherland finding aid for what programs we currently hold.
