After a long wait, Legal Deposit legislation has now been updated and we will be collecting everything on the Internet relating to Australia.
Future generations of Australians will now have access to today’s online stories, ebooks, journals and magazines and any new forms of publication that appear in the future.
Legal Deposit is a requirement under the Copyright Act 1968 that any publishers deposit a copy of printed work published in Australia with the National Library. This ensures that Australian publications are preserved for use now and in the future.
Books, serials such as newsletters or annual reports, newspapers, sheet music, maps, posters, plans, charts, tables, programmes, catalogues, brochures or pamphlets, and now all digital publications will be added to the list from January 2016 under the the recent update to the Copyright Act 1968, which was covered in the recent The Civil Law and Justice Legislation Amendment Bill 2014.
We will be providing information for Australian publishers soon.
