Outgoing Chair of the National Library of Australia Council, Mr Ryan Stokes, has donated, on behalf of his family, $1 million to support NLA Fellowships.
Mr Stokes, who has been Chair for six years, announced the donation which will support the Library's prestigious research Fellowships program.
Every year, for 10 years, it will give three researchers - established and emerging - the opportunity to spend three months immersed in the NLA collection, learning from and sharing their knowledge with Library staff.
On behalf of staff, Director-General of the NLA, Dr Marie-Louise Ayres thanked the Stokes family for the generous gift, saying it would maintain the strong connection between the family for years to come.
