It was known as the "Bushman's Bible", the funny, serious, irreverent, poignant Bulletin magazine that told our nation's story from its earliest of days.

The first six years of The Bulletin, from 31 July, 1880, have just been digitised and added to Trove making it available to a  new generation of readers.

The Bulletin was also the nursery for many of our greatest writers, with Henry Lawson, Christina Stead, Banjo Paterson and many more having their first stories published by the magazine.

Read all the news that was fit to print - and much that wasn't in The Bulletin.
