Enjoy a COVID Safe Visit
All public areas of the National Library are open to visitors.
As of 6 March 2021, it is mandatory in the ACT for Library visitors over the age of 16 to register their visit using the Check In CBR app.
Getting to the Library
The National Library is located on Parkes Place, in Canberra's Parliamentary Triangle.
The Library building opens at 8.30am Monday to Friday and 9am weekends.
Please note that all reading rooms are closed on public holidays. Public holiday opening hours for the galleries, Bookshop and Bookplate vary. The entire Library building is closed on Good Friday and Christmas Day.

Collection delivery times
Collection delivery cut-offs vary during the week and there are no collection deliveries during evenings or on weekends, so please check our collection delivery times before you visit. You can also log in to your account with your Library card to request items before you visit.
Exhibitions and tours
Open daily, Bookplate is situated in the Library's marble foyer, surrounded by the famous Leonard French stained glass windows. Paperplate, Bookplate’s little sister on Lower Ground 1, is open weekdays for all your on-the-go refreshment needs.
National Library Bookshop
Our bookshop, home to the best in Australian writing, is open onsite daily from 9am to 5pm (closed Good Friday and Christmas Day) and always open online.
We have a variety of rooms available for hire, including a theatre, conference room, foyer and training rooms.
