To be eligible for a standard library card you must live in Australia and supply an Australian residential address.
International visitors may apply for a temporary onsite library card when visiting the National Library in person.

The National Library of Australia (NLA) is committed to protecting your privacy, under the Privacy Act 1988. When you create or renew your library card, we will collect your personal information, including name and email address, for the purpose of:

  • processing your card
  • facilitating your access to and use of NLA services

When you create/ renew your library card, we will also collect your personal information for the purpose of:

  • sending you newsletters relating to NLA and information on events and activities.
  • facilitating fundraising related activities, including sending you information on how you can support the Library
  • seeking your feedback on library services, e.g. via online surveys

unless you unsubscribe or tell us you do not wish for your information to be used in this way.

By creating or renewing your library card, you agree to:

We will only use and disclose your personal information as described in the National Library’s Privacy Policy, and you provide consent. You can unsubscribe from any newsletters and may contact the Library at any time to withdraw consent.

I would like to receive my library card through the post. I understand that this will take 5-10 working days and that I will need to wait until my card arrives before I can access the Library's collections and some electronic resources.
