Dodo and Red Parakeet c.1773

In this painting the parakeet and its zoo-fattened
companion, the extinct Dodo of Mauritius, foretell the long period of bird destruction
which followed the European incursion into the southern hemisphere (the Dodo succumbed to
seamen and animals off visiting ships). The date of this painting is derived from its Rex
Nan Kivell attribution, and is doubtful.
