Elizabeth
Gould was a natural history painter and lithographer. She
came to Australia from England in 1838 with her husband,
John, returning to England in 1840 where she died the following
year. During her time in Tasmania and New South Wales she
made more than 600 drawings of birds and plants to assist
her in producing the final lithographs for John Gould's
The Birds of Australia (1840-1848).
