Contemporary art from the Wesfarmers Collection

Text of Luminous World written in white stars on a black background

Luminous World brings together a selection of contemporary paintings, objects and photographs from the Wesfarmers Collection in a conversation about light. Through works of conceptual invention that chart the range and depth of the collection, this exhibition features significant works by prominent Australian and New Zealand artists.

Artists exploring the role that light plays in creating and revealing our world include Susan Norrie, Rosemary Laing, Howard Taylor, Michael Riley, Paddy Bedford, Bill Henson, Rosalie Gascoigne, Brian Blanchflower, Brook Andrew, Timothy Cook and Nyapanyapa Yunupingu.

These leading artists look at light from the perspective of the optical experience, the connection between the movements of the stars and the cycles of life on earth; and the diversity of cultural, mythic and spiritual ideas with which light has come to be associated.
