We're calling on you to help us collect campaign material from the 2023 Referendum on an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice.

In the lead up to the referendum, you may see flyers, posters, badges, stickers, and printed material.

By collecting and sending us material from your local area you can help us tell future generations the full story about the referendum.

What we want to collect

We're collecting campaign material from all sides of the debate. We'll get the official Yes and No campaign material, but you can help us collect other items:

  • from lobby groups and local events
  • produced by First Nations Australians
  • from rural and regional communities
  • in languages other than English.

We're looking for items including letters, 'how to vote' cards, posters, pamphlets, badges, stickers, T-shirts, and hats.

How to support this collecting campaign

If you have any of the items listed above, please send it to us. You can send small items (A4 size or smaller) for free using our reply-paid address. Our address is:

Referendum Ephemera
Curatorial & Collection Research
National Library of Australia
Reply Paid 83399

If your item is bigger than A4 size, please email with some information about what you would like to donate.

Unless requested, we won't confirm that we have received each item we get sent, as we are sent a lot of material.

What we do with donated campaign material

We'll sort printed material when the referendum is over. This material will be carefully stored in protective housing. The items will then be added to the Library catalogue so people can learn about the referendum.

You can look at our collection of Referenda material to explore some of the weird and wonderful items we have collected from past referendums.

Digital material

We'll collect online referendum material with our archive partner agencies. This material will be delivered through the Australian Web Archive.

Items we do not collect

We don't collect damaged material, photocopies, photographs, or copies of items we already have.

If you're unsure of the condition of your items, please email and we'll let you know if we can accept it.

We may not accept material that doesn't fit with our Collection Development Policy. Duplicate material may be disposed of in line with the Library's Deaccessioning and Disposal Policy.
