As part of our Enlighten Festival program, join local children's author Stephanie Owen Reeder for a live reading from her latest book, Courageous Kids and Their Amazing Adventures

You can see Stephanie on Saturday 2 March at 6pm.

This activity is suitable for children aged 3-10 years old, and parents and carers are more than welcome to join too.

This event a fantastic place to start your family’s night at Enlighten. Stay after the presentation to enjoy our community picnic, face painting, art and craft activities and giant games, or grab a bite to eat at our food stalls while the kids are entertained for free.

Stephanie Owen Reeder brings to life true stories from Australia’s past, especially through her multi-award-winning Heritage Heroes series. All 5 books in the series have recently been brought together in Courageous Kids and Their Amazing Adventures, along with two new true tales to amaze and inspire young readers.

About Stephanie Owen Reeder

Dr Stephanie Owen Reeder is a children’s author with an abiding love of books, art, history and the environment. She was described by a film company executive as 'The Story Whisperer' for the way she discovers and brings to life true stories from Australia’s past, especially through her multi-award-winning Heritage Heroes series.  

Stephanie has been involved in Australian Children’s Literature since the 1980s as a reviewer, editor, academic, critic, mentor, advocate, author and illustrator. She was the recipient of the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Laurie Copping Award for Distinguished Service to Children’s Literature in the ACT in 2019, and she has been an Ambassador for the ACT Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge since 2021. Stephanie is also a life member of the CBCA. 

Stephanie also writes picture books with an environmental theme, and she has reviewed and edited a range of both adult and children’s books. Before becoming a full-time author, Stephanie worked as a secondary school teacher, a librarian, a university lecturer and a Hansard Editor at Federal Parliament.
