Due to scheduled maintenance, the National Library’s online services will be unavailable between 8pm on Saturday 7 December and 11am on Sunday 8 December (AEDT). Find out more.
We walk through our landscapes every day but don’t often stop to look at them, whether they’re the bush, the city, the water or the sky.
In this two-hour workshop, join the National Library of Australia education team and local artists from the Urban Sketchers Canberra group to take a moment to capture some of the landscapes surrounding the Library from the corners of our Podium.
As part of the workshop we will draw inspiration from the works of art featured in the Library’s exhibition A Nation Imagined: The Artists of the Picturesque Atlas.
Workshops are open to young people between 10-16 who have a love of drawing, are interested in learning some new skills or who just want to try something new! Each participant will receive a sketching kit containing an art pad, pens, watercolour pencils and a host of other materials. Participants can keep their kits and artwork and take them home at the end of the program.
Sessions will require some walking and will be outdoors (weather permitting). Participants are asked to wear comfortable footwear, a hat and suitable clothing for being outside for the length of the program. COVID Guidelines must be followed while on the tour.
Details for a second workshop session, taking place on Thursday, 15 April, are available here.
