Dr Brett Mason presented his credentials to King Willem-Alexander as Australian Ambassador to the Netherlands in September 2015.
Born in 1962, Brett was educated at the Australian National University, the University of Cambridge and Griffith University. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in legal theory.
Brett served as Senator for Queensland from 1 July 1999 until 15 April 2015. He was assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs from September 2013 to December 2014. He also served in Government as the assistant to the Minister for Health and Ageing from March to December 2007.
Before entering Parliament, Brett was a Commonwealth Prosecutor; lecturer in criminology at the Queensland University of Technology; a Human Rights Officer with the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia; and a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Criminological Research at Oxford University.
